Landslide threatens buildings in Shimla; heavy rain likely to continue today
Meteorological Centre issues yellow alert for Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Bilaspur and Sirmour districts for today
Several houses have come under threat due to a landslide triggered by heavy rain in Sanjauli locality in Shimla on Saturday.
The landslide occurred at Bothwell area near Government College, Sanjauli, where a large amount of debris came crashing down, triggering panic among locals.
A team of the district administration along with other departments reached the spot and are assessing the situation.
Another landslide has occurred in Rajhana village in Shimla due to which several vehicles parked at the roadside have been damaged. No loss of life has been reported.
The landslide occurred today when a massive amount of boulders, rocks and debris fell onto the road, partially burying and damaging the vehicles. The district administration has begun debris clearance work at the site.
Meanwhile, the Sangla bridge, which connects Sangla with Chitkul, collapsed on Friday night after remaining under threat due to incessant rain.
The Meteorological Centre has forecast continued rain across Himachal Pradesh and issued a yellow alert for Shimla, Kullu, Chamba, Bilaspur and Sirmour districts for today. Heavy to moderate rain is likely in isolated areas of these districts.
The centre has also warned of waterlogging in low-lying areas, traffic congestion, slippery roads and temporary disruption of local essential services. People have been advised to avoid vulnerable areas and water bodies.
