Landslip blocks Manali-Leh highway

The Manali-Leh highway was blocked for several hours due to a landslide near Nehru Kund in Manali today. The landslide occurred just a few kilometers from Manali town toward Rohtang Pass in wee hours. The landslide resulted in the traffic remaining blocked on the highway till 9 am.

After the landslide, the BRO deployed its workforce and machinery to clear the debris and boulders from the road to enable movement of vehicles. During that interval long queue of vehicles was witnessed on both sides of the road.

The Border Roads Organisation commander Colonel Uma Shankar said the road had been restored for traffic at 9 am.

The road between Manali and Rohtang is prone to landslide these days because of heavy rains. Similarly, the road leading to Spiti from Rohtang ahead is in poor condition, where water streams flow on the road hampering smooth traffic movement. The Border Roads Organisation personnel are engaged in the arduous task and keep the road fit for smooth traffic between Manali-Leh and Manali-Spiti.
