Legal awareness event on rights of acid attack victims held in Chamba
The participants were informed in detail about the objectives and provisions of the NALSA scheme for acid attack victims
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chamba, organised a sensitisation and awareness programme at Swami Shri Rajeshwaranand Bharti Nursing Training Institute, Kakira, under Legal Services to Victims of Acid Attack Scheme, 2016, the of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The programme aimed to spread awareness among students and public about the legal rights of acid attack survivors and the assistance available to them through legal services institutions.
Naveen Singh Thakur and Priyanka Kumari conducted the session on behalf of the DLSA. The institute administration extended support in organising the programme, while Mehar, a para legal volunteer, was also present during the session.
The participants were informed in detail about the objectives and provisions of the NALSA scheme for acid attack victims. They were also educated about the legal rights of survivors, available legal remedies and the provision of free legal aid through legal services authorities.
Speakers also explained the victim compensation scheme and the penal provisions related to acid attacks under Sections 326A and 326B of the Indian Penal Code. Information about the toll-free legal services helpline number 15100 was also shared with the participants.
