Shimla, November 14

The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation(HPTDC) will suspend lift operations that carry tourists and general public from the Cart Road to The Mall and back for two days from tomorrow and for another four days from November 19 to November 22.

Kumud Singh, Managing Director, HPTDC, said the corporation was suspending its operations for six days at two different intervals. This was being done to ensure public safety as the HPTDC was installing new machines to increase the present capacity of the lift, she added.

She said, “The general public will not get the HPTDC lift facility for two days –tomorrow and the day after. They will also not get the facility from November 19 to November 22 as the work for readying the new lift for operation was under final stages”, she added.

She said the operation of the lift was suspended as movement of heavy equipment and placing of heavy steel chambers was going to start soon, which might put the lives of occupants in danger. Keeping in view the safety and security of the general public and smooth completion of the work, the operation of old lift will remain closed on these days, she added.

The MD said the public should make alternative arrangements during this period. The operation of the lift will be resumed after November 22, she added.
