Dharamsala, February 8

After heavy rain in the past two days, it snowed in some areas of lower Dharamsala on Friday morning. The Kotwali bazaar of Dharamsala received snow after more than six years. The lower areas of Dharamsala had received snow last, in 2012.

While the lower areas of Dharamsala received snow, the upper Dharamsala regions including Bhagsunag, Mcleodganj, Dharamkot received heavy snowfall after many years. All the said areas received up to about 1-ft snow. Even the lower Dhauladhar ranges received heavy snow.

The sun came out in Dharamsala region after about two days, giving relief to residents of the area. Many locals and tourists rushed to upper Dharamsala regions to enjoy the heavy snow. However, the snowfall also took a toll on power and water supply in many areas of upper Dharamsala. Officials of the IPH and Power Department remained busy on Friday restoring power and water supplies in the region.

However, the people and the officials are happy that the heavy snowfall will ensure supply of water in the region during summer.
