Harsh Mahajan, Rajya Sabha MP and former minister from Himachal Pradesh, has been nominated member of the India-Saudi Arabia Parliamentary Friendship Group by the Speaker of Lok Sabha. The friendship group was recently constituted for the period of the 18th Lok Sabha.
Born in Chamba district, Mahajan has had a long and active political career spanning several decades. He previously served as the Animal Husbandry Minister in the Himachal Pradesh Government and is regarded as a seasoned political figure in the state. He is the son of former Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker and Cabinet Minister Des Raj Mahajan.
Mahajan began his political journey with the Congress and held the post of president of the State Youth Congress from 1986 to 1995. In 1993, he was elected Member of Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha for the first time from the Chamba Assembly constituency on a Congress ticket and was re-elected in 1998 and 2003.
In September 2022, Mahajan parted ways with the Congress and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections. He was elected to Rajya Sabha as a BJP candidate in 2024.
