A meeting of the Mahakal Temple Trust, one of Himachal’s prominent religious bodies, was held on Tuesday at the Mahakal Temple office to review ongoing development works and finalise proposals for the temple complex for 2026. The meeting was chaired by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Baijnath, and Temple Assistant Commissioner Sankalp Gautam.
The focus of the meeting was on beautification, infrastructure upgrades and overall development of the temple complex. Trust authorities presented a detailed outline of the proposed works planned for the coming year, with particular emphasis on improving security and facilities for devotees.
Among the initiatives discussed was the installation of CCTV cameras within the temple premises and in surrounding areas to strengthen security arrangements. Plans were also drawn up to improve illumination through the installation of high-mast lights at strategic locations to enhance safety and convenience for pilgrims.
Budgetary provisions for constructing proper drainage channels inside the temple complex were deliberated to address waterlogging issues, especially during the monsoon season. The proposal further included the installation of CCTV cameras along the roadside outside the temple to ensure better monitoring and public safety.
Improving access to the temple emerged as another major priority. The meeting placed significant emphasis on upgrading the approach road and footpath connectivity from Mahakal Chowk to the temple complex. The removal of temporary vendors and illegal encroachments obstructing pedestrian movement and traffic flow was also discussed, along with measures to ensure smooth traffic management during peak pilgrimage seasons and festivals.
SDM Sankalp Gautam stressed that all security- and lighting-related works must be completed on a priority basis and within a fixed timeframe to ensure the safe, smooth and orderly movement of devotees. He also directed the concerned departments to identify suitable land for the construction of a dedicated parking facility near the temple to ease congestion. Instructions were further issued to initiate repair and renovation works of the community hall and other temple-related structures at the earliest.
The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Temple Officer and Tehsildar Raman Thakur. Naib Tehsildar Gurmukh Singh and members of the Mahakal Temple Trust and other officials, were present.
