Major General Adarsh Verma is the son of Mangat Ram Verma and an alumnus of Purulia Sainik School in West Bengal. He was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1993, after completing his training at the National Defence Academy (Khadakwasla) and the Indian Military Academy (Dehradun).

He is married to Pooja Verma, also from Hamirpur, and the couple has two sons — one pursuing engineering and the other MBBS.

Residents of Hamirpur, along with his extended family and in-laws, are celebrating the honour and sending heartfelt congratulations. This marks the second significant promotion from Hamirpur in the Indian Army within just four months. Earlier, Maj Gen Ranjit Singh, also from the town, was elevated to the prestigious rank of Lieutenant General. These back-to-back recognitions have further cemented Hamirpur’s reputation as the “Land of Warriors.”

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended his congratulations to Major General Verma on assuming the high command. He stated that Adarsh, a resident of Ward No. 5, has brought distinction not only to Hamirpur but to the entire state. The CM also acknowledged that Major General Verma has been conferred the Vishisht Seva Medal, a testament to his exemplary service and dedication.

“This achievement sends a strong message to the youth of Himachal Pradesh,” Sukhu said. “With determination and hard work, one can rise to great heights and serve the nation with honour.”
