CHAMBA: The government is committed to making the state an educational hub and special focus is being laid on strengthening related infrastructure, especially in rural areas.

The government is committed to making the state an educational hub and special focus is being laid on strengthening related infrastructure, especially in rural areas.

This was stated by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur after inaugurating the new building of Government Degree College at Killar in the Pangi tribal valley here on Monday. The building has been constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.60 crore.

The Chief Minister said the foundation stone of the building was laid by the then BJP government in October 2008, but it took 10 years to complete the work.

He said the government was making all efforts to ensure proper infrastructure at all educational and health institutions across the state at the earliest.

Thakur said the government would provide all help to strengthen infrastructure at the college. He congratulated college students for excelling in both academics and co-curricular activities.

He claimed that the Union Government has had always paid heed to their demands related to the development of the state. When hundreds of tourists got stranded in the Lahaul valley following untimely snow, the Centre provided seven helicopters for the rescue operation, he added.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister was presented a cheque for Rs 10 lakh by Chamba SP Monika Bhutungru on behalf of the Chamba police for the CM’s Relief Fund.

Local MLA Jai Lal Kapoor, Agriculture Minister Ram Lal Markanda, MP Ramswaroop Sharma and OSD to the Chief Minister Shishu Dharma were present.
