Man kills wife, hangs self in Chamba’s Bharmour
Locals allege that the man frequently assaulted his wife
A man hacked his wife to death with a sharp-edged weapon before ending his own life at a remote Lothal village of Bharmour subdivision in Chamba district on Wednesday morning.
According to Bharmour police, the accused, identified as Sarwan Kumar, attacked his wife with a sharp weapon following a domestic dispute and later hanged himself inside the house.
Police reached the spot early in the morning after receiving information and took both bodies into custody. A forensic team was also called to the scene to collect evidence. The bodies had been sent for post-mortem, said police.
Locals said Sarwan Kumar and his wife had visited his brother’s house on Tuesday evening and returned home late at night. Soon after their return, an argument reportedly broke out between the couple. Villagers alleged that Sarwan frequently assaulted his wife and that he was unemployed, while the deceased woman supported the family by working as a labourer and mule handler.
Locals further claimed that the accused had previously attempted suicide but was saved by family members. The couple has two married daughters and a 17-year-old son, who was not at home when the incident occurred.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.
