Unidentified person have been booked for allegedly duping a person of Rs 11.87 lakhs by claiming to be USA’s billionaire businessman Elon Musk and offering him attractive gifts such as a Tesla car along with gold.
As per the complainant, while he was surfing the internet, he was contacted by a person who claimed to be Musk and told him that he would be getting a Tesla car along with gold and other attractive prizes. The scammer also provided the contact number of the delivery team to the victim.
Being lured by the scammer, the complaint transferred money in multiple installments amounting to approx Rs 11.87 lakhs. However, when he didn’t receive any gifts as promised, he suspected of being defrauded and filed a complaint against the scammer.
Police has registered a case against the unidentified scammer under section 318 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 and section 66 C and 66 D of the Information Technology Act and has initiated the investigation.
Police has appealed to the people not to fall for such traps and inform the cyber cell by dialling toll free cyber crime helpline number 1930 in case of being duped by a scammer.
