Man, wife killed in bike-tractor collision in Sirmaur district

Sirmaur district witnessed a tragic road accident on the Kala Amb-Trilokpur link road this afternoon, claiming the lives of a man and his wife in a devastating collision involving a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer.

The accident occurred around 1.50 pm. According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary police investigation, three persons were riding on a motorcycle. The bike driver attempted to overtake tractor-trailer from the wrong side. During the risky manoeuvre, the bike driver lost control over the two-wheeler, which collided with the tyre of an oncoming tractor-trailer.

The impact of the collision was severe. Jagru and his wife Lakhpati, who were seated on the rear side of the motorcycle, were flung off the two-wheeler and fell beneath the tractor-trailer, resulting in their instant death. The motorcycle driver, however, fell on the opposite side of the road and managed to flee from the scene immediately after the accident.

The police reached the spot soon after receiving information and took the bodies into custody. The bodies of the deceased were sent to a hospital for the post-mortem examination.

Confirming the incident, Yogesh Rolta, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sirmaur, said a case had been registered in this connection. He said an investigation was initiated into the incident. Efforts were underway to trace and apprehend the absconding motorcycle driver, he said.
