Mandi admn sanctions Rs 4cr relief for disaster-hit families

Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan announced that the state government and district administration have sanctioned over Rs 4.23 crore in relief funds for 1,085 cases impacted by recent natural disasters and road accidents in the district.

The compensation covers losses to homes, private property, livestock and human lives. In addition, approximately Rs 62 lakh has already been disbursed as immediate relief, with the Thunag sub-division — the worst-hit area — receiving around Rs 46 lakh in urgent aid. Thunag alone accounts for over Rs 3 crore worth of sanctioned compensation.

Damage assessments are being conducted swiftly and relief operations are underway in coordination with the Revenue Department, SDRF, Home Guards and Health Department to ensure timely assistance.

To help families left homeless, the government has launched a six-month rent assistance scheme — Rs 5,000 per month for rural families and Rs 10,000 for urban families. A total of Rs 22 lakh has been released to SDMs for disbursement as per need.

Eighteen relief camps have been established across affected areas, currently housing 386 individuals. Managed by local authorities and disaster response teams, these camps provide basic amenities and medical care.

The DC assured that no affected family will be left without help. “The government and district administration are standing firmly with every affected individual in this hour of crisis,” he said.

The swift financial aid, rent support scheme and shelter facilities highlight the administration’s commitment to restoring normalcy and aiding recovery in disaster-hit Mandi.
