Residents of the Balh valley in Mandi district are irked over poor condition of the Mandi-Gaggal road via Malori. Those travelling on the road to go to the district headquarters of Mandi for office-related and private works face a lot of inconvenience. A large number of students from the Balh valley also use this road to to attend school in Mandi.
The four-km road stretch is full of potholes, rendering the stretch unfit for the movement of even heavy vehicles. Due to the current rainy season, the situation has worsened. It has turned muddy and become prone to skidding.
Suresh Sharma, a resident of the Balh valley, says inappropriate cutting of the hillside at several locations on this road stretch has worsened the situation. The debris is being levelled on the road. As there is no drainage system alongside the road, this stretch has turned up into a virtual marsh.
Surender Kumar, another resident, says that due to the bad condition of this road private bus operators have stopped service on this route.
“We have been urging Deputy Commissioner Arindam Chaudhary to ask the NHAI to ask the construction company to improve the condition of the road for the convenience of people. It will be of a great help to us,” he said.
