The Municipal Council (MC) of Manali is planning to convert dumping sites to green spaces. It has decided to transport garbage from wards to the waste plant directly in vehicles to ensure cleanliness in town and its vicinity and do plantation there.
There are a few small dumping sites in Manali where residents and tourists dump garbage. The MC authorities lift garbage from these sites and transport it to the main dumping site at Rangri.
BR Negi, Executive Officer of the Manali MC, says, “We are planning to convert small dumping sites to green spaces. Manali is a famous tourist place and the sight of garbage disappoint tourists.”
“People dump garbage in the open in places like near the Manali bus stand on the national highway, Mission Hospital, Dhungri area and on the bypass near a parking lot. We have decided to grow flowers and plants at these sites. It is being done on an experimental basis in Manali. If the drive is successful here, It will be replicated in Kullu and Bhunter,” says Negi.
“Benches will also be set up in these places. An action plan is ready and it will be executed shortly,” he adds. Chaman Kapoor, president of the Manali MC, says that efforts are being made to beautify the town.
