The state continued to reel under severe cold wave conditions as the tribal districts and higher reaches experienced fresh snowfall.
Even as the weather improved in the middle and low hills, the departure from three to five degrees from the normal temperature gripped the state in severe cold wave conditions. The minimum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 1.5 degrees, which was 3.17 degrees less than normal. The maximum temperature was recorded at 11.1 degrees, almost four degrees less than normal.
Kalpa received three cm, of snow while Kufri and Keylong recorded two cm of snow in the last 24 hours. Even as the local meteorological office predicted dry weather in the next few days, fresh spell of snow sent the mercury plummeting.
Hoteliers are, however, hopeful that snowfall around Christmas and New Year’s could attract tourists in large numbers. While Keylong shivered at minus 7.3 degrees Kalpa recorded a minimum of minus 3.8 degrees. Kufri recorded a minimum of minus 2.3 degrees while Dalhousie recorded minus 0.2 degrees.
The minimum temperature in Sundernagar was recorded at 2.8 degrees, Bhuntar 4.0 degrees, Dharamsala 3.2 degrees, Una 5.4 degrees, Nahan 5.4 degrees, Palampur and Solan 4.0 degrees each, Manali 1.2 degrees and Paonta Sahib 8.0.degrees.
