Mandi, September 10

The Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi, is organising a 15-day workshop under the proposed scheme of the Department of Science and Technology, ‘Vigyan Jyoti’, from September 10 to 22, for meritorious girls.

The purpose of the workshop is to motivate the selected 30 girl students to join the field of science and technology and to provide them counselling for various career options through expert lectures, interactions and access to research labs.

While inaugurating the workshop on Monday, Professor Timothy A Gonsalves, Director, IIT-Mandi, said, “The job of an engineer is to make life easy. For a long time, it was thought that the field of engineering needed physical strength, that’s why we had less number of female engineers. We encourage more girls to opt for engineering as we can have better solutions to the problem. I wish all these workshop lectures will help to encourage the girls to take up engineering as a career.”
