Mid-day meal worker murdered inside primary school in Kangra
59-year-old woman attacked with sharp weapon; accused arrested
A 59-year-old mid-day meal worker was allegedly murdered inside the premises of a government primary school in Kangra on Thursday, triggering shock and concern over safety in educational institutions.
The incident took place at the Government Primary School in Chinaur village under the Dehra subdivision. The deceased has been identified as Salochna Devi, a resident of the same village.
According to available information, a team from Dadasiba police station rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the incident. On reaching the school, the police found Salochna Devi lying injured and unconscious on the premises.
She was rushed to the Community Health Centre, Dadasiba, where doctors declared her dead. The body was later shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem examination, the report of which was awaited at the time of filing this report.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Salochna Devi was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon inside the school premises by Rakesh Kumar, also known as Monu (48), a resident of Chinaur village.
After the attack, the accused allegedly fled the spot as teachers from a nearby government senior secondary school gathered at the premises. However, police acted swiftly and apprehended him within half an hour at a short distance from the school. The sharp-edged weapon used in the crime has also been recovered.
A case of murder has been registered at Dadasiba police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway to ascertain the motive behind the crime. The broad daylight killing inside a school campus has raised serious concerns about security in educational institutions and has left residents of Chinaur village in a state of shock.
