Town and Country Planning, Housing, Technical Education and Vocational and Industrial Training Minister Rajesh Dharmani on Thursday inaugurated a 33 kV power line in the Shahpur–Lanj area of Kangra district. The minister also inspected several developmental works in the area. Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania accompanied Dharmani on the visit.
The Shahpur–Lanj power line has been constructed at a cost of Rs 3.84 crore at Lanj Gahliyan. Addressing the gathering, Dharmani said the commissioning of the new power line would significantly strengthen electricity supply in 15 panchayats across the Shahpur, Kangra and Dehra constituencies. “The new line will address the persistent issues of low voltage and frequent power cuts in the area. Domestic consumers, farmers and small industries will also benefit from the improved power infrastructure, which will contribute to the overall development of the region,” he added.
Dharmani said balancing the electricity load through the new line would ensure smoother and more reliable power distribution. “As part of the government’s efforts to strengthen power distribution systems across the state, new power lines are being constructed, transformer capacities are being enhanced and old infrastructure is being upgraded on a priority basis,” he added.
Dharmani also visited the HIMUDA Colony and the Automated Vehicle Testing Centre in the area. Additionally, he visited Harchakian to inspect the land selected for setting up an Industrial Training Institute (ITI). Emphasising the importance of skill development, Dharmani said providing technical and vocational training to youth was essential to help them seek better employment opportunities.
