Minister inspects illegal mining in Swan river

UNA: Industries and Mining Minister Bikram Singh Thakur today conducted a surprise check on various spots near the Swan to take the first-hand information regarding allegations of illegal mining of sand and gravel from riverbeds.

Industries and Mining Minister Bikram Singh Thakur today conducted a surprise check on various spots near the Swan to take the first-hand information regarding allegations of illegal mining of sand and gravel from riverbeds.

He also inspected various stone crushers. He detected some irregularities and, acting on the directions of the minister, the Mining Department staff issued notices to seven persons. Those served notices include two stone crushers and five lease holders of mining material.

District mining officer Paramjit Singh said the minister had issued directions to maintain a strict vigil against illegal mining. — OC
