Education Minister Rohit Thakur reviewed the progress made under ‘HP Futures’ project, a joint initiative between the Himachal Pradesh government and UNESCO, and discussed ways to further improve the quality of education in the state.
The project focuses on three key areas: skill-based education system, value-based education through sports and environmental protection and sustainable development. The initiative aims to promote holistic education and sustainable development in the state, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework 2023.
Thakur appreciated the collaboration and technical expertise provided by UNESCO, saying that the “Whole School and Whole Community” approach of the HP Futures project will be highly beneficial for both teachers and students. He emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation, structured follow-up and robust monitoring systems to scale up successful practices and further strengthen the state''s education system.
The meeting was informed that the project has made significant progress in policy formulation, teacher training and community engagement. Over 200 teachers have been trained in value-based education through sports. Special training programs have been conducted for senior secondary physical education lecturers. The participants discussed plans to expand the project''s scope to more schools and conduct more training programmes in the coming years.
The minister urged all stakeholders to focus on quality and innovation to make Himachal a model state in education.
“The HP Futures project demonstrates how a comprehensive and future-ready vision for education can take shape when policy, pedagogy, and sustainability come together with purpose,” said Joyce Poan, Chief of Education, UNESCO Regional Office for South Asia.
