Shimla, September 17

Day temperatures remained two to five degree above normal in Himachal. Rains eluded the region for the eighth day. Monsoon weakened further as MeT office has predicted dry weather in lower, mid and higher hills for next six days up to September 23.

The rain deficit during the monsoons from June 1 to September 17 has increased to 22 per cent as the region received 565 mm average rains against the normal rainfall of 724.6 mm. The state received 686 mm rains during monsoons in 2019 against the normal rainfall of 763.5 mm, a deficit of 10 per cent.

The rain deficit during the month of September till date was 69 per cent and in case the monsoon withdraws early as expected, the deficit would increase further.

Director of Shimla MeT station Manmohan Singh said that withdrawal phase had not started yet even though dry weather is continuing but humidity level is still high, increasing probability of more rains.

Una in Shivalik foothills was the hottest during the day with a high of 37.7 degree five degrees above normal and Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district warmer at 26.0 degree, five degree above normal.

The day temperature remained four degree above normal at Bhuntar, Keylong and Solan and three degree above normal at Shimla, Sundernagar, Kangra and Mandi.
