Chamba, February 10

The Chamba District Sanjha Morcha comprising 26 social organisations is planning to field a candidate from Chamba district for the Kangra Lok Sabha constituency in the coming Lok Sabha elections if the state government fails to undertake the development projects in the region on priority.

In a statement here today, morcha convener PC Oberoi reiterated that the people were still waiting for the much-awaited Sikridhar cement plant, rail link to the district, heli-taxi services and opening of passport office at Chamba.

Oberoi said on the one hand, the Central Government had declared Chamba as “aspirational district,” but on the other, the main development projects were not being taken up on priority.

“The cement plant can generate employment opportunities to the local youth while the railway line and heli-taxi services can link the scenic places of Chamba district and promote tourism-related activities,” Oberoi said. — OC
