More cops deployed at key points to ease traffic flow in Shimla

The Shimla district police have decided to deploy additional traffic police personnel to strengthen traffic management as well as to ensure smooth vehicular movement in the town.

Fifteen additional personnel have been deployed at some of the busiest locations in the town. These include areas near Loretto Convent Tara Hall School, near Laxmi Narayan Temple in Kasumpti, Talland, Lakkar Bazaar bus stand, near Rahat Hotel and near the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh said Shimla has to deal with massive traffic problems, especially during the office hours in morning and evening, due to which commuters have to face inconvenience. “There are several bottlenecks in the town where traffic jams are frequent and efforts are underway to resolve traffic issues. Traffic jams in the town are a result of limited road infrastructure and high inflow of vehicles. Another reason, which contributes to traffic jams is roadside parking,” he added.

“To ensure effective traffic management, the town has been divided into different sectors and key traffic points and major intersections have been identified,” he said.

“At present, there are 180 personnel with the Shimla Traffic Police, of which 136 are deployed on traffic duties. It was noted that there is a need to deploy additional force to manage traffic in the town. Fifteen more police personnel have been deployed by us, who will ensure smooth traffic movement in the town,” said the SSP.

He appealed to locals, tourists, bus and truck operators and taxi unions to adhere to traffic rules and cooperate with the police in parking and movement-related instructions.
