NABARD sets Rs 4,336-crore credit potential for Sirmaur

Economic growth, employment generation and strengthening of basic infrastructure in Sirmaur district are set to receive a major push with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) earmarking a credit potential of Rs 4,336.74 crore for 2026-27.

Releasing the credit plan, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Verma said it would provide focused direction to lending in priority sectors, including agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), housing, education, social infrastructure and renewable energy.

A credit potential of Rs 1,100.45 crore has been identified for agriculture and allied activities, while the MSME sector has been allocated Rs 2,974.08 crore. An additional Rs 262.21 crore has been earmarked for other priority sectors.

Within the agriculture segment, Rs 703.29 crore has been proposed for crop production, maintenance and marketing. Provisions have also been made for water resource development with Rs 25.93 crore, agricultural mechanisation with Rs 32.47 crore, horticulture, plantation and sericulture with Rs 41.33 crore and wasteland and land development with Rs 1.49 crore.

District Development Manager, NABARD, Vikramjeet Singh said that effective implementation of the District Credit Plan would create new livelihood opportunities in rural areas, enhance farmer income and promote entrepreneurship at the local level, thereby generating sustained employment.
