Nalagarh set to get Solan district's first authorised paragliding site

Nalagarh is set to become the first authorised paragliding site in Solan district following the successful technical trial and inspection of the proposed take-off and landing sites at Koidi village on Tuesday evening.

Experts observed that the proposed site met the safety and technical standards required for paragliding activities. Nalagarh SDM Narendra Ahluwalia said it would become the district’s first authorised paragliding site after receiving final approval from the tourism department.

Ahluwalia, who is also the Chairman of the Evaluation Committee, said the committee had conducted a detailed survey, technical testing and evaluation of the proposed site in various stages in accordance with the required standards.

The technical committee will prepare a detailed report and forward it to the tourism department for final approval. After obtaining departmental approval, the site will be developed in accordance with the recommendations of experts and the prescribed standards.

“In a bid to facilitate the people, road connectivity to the site will also be strengthened to provide better facilities to tourists and adventure sports enthusiasts,” said Nalagarh MLA Hardeep Singh Bawa.

He said the geographical location of the region makes it highly suitable for adventure tourism.

“Due to its proximity to Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, a large number of tourists will be drawn to the site, which will give a new identity to tourism activities in the region,” he added.

On the occasion, Gimnar Singh, instructor at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali, successfully completed a solo paragliding trial flight from the proposed take-off site.
