National Holi fest kicks off at Sujanpur

Deputy CM announces Rs 7.5 crore for bus stand, Rs 5 cr for infrastructure development at Sainik School

The national-level Sujanpur Hoili Utsav started with prayers performed by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri at Murali Manohar Temple in Sujanpur yesterday.

He also participated in a traditional shobha yatra. The festival was started by Raja Sansar Chand of the Katoch dynasty and since then it has been celebrated with great fervour. Agnihotri also inaugurated the exhibition arena at the festival ground that depicted achievements and programmes of various departments.

On the first cultural evening of the festival, Agnihotri announced Rs 7.5 crore for the construction of a bus stand and Rs 5 crore for infrastructure development of the Sainik School at Sujanpur Tira. He also announced to start two new bus services from Sandhol-Sujanpur to Chandigarh via the Kiratpur four-lane highway and Tauni Devi to Chandigarh. He said the government was spending over Rs 134 crore to improve water supply in the Sujanpur Assembly constituency. He said the construction of the water supply scheme for Chabutra village would be completed by July at an expenditure of Rs 24 crore. He said that a Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School was being constructed at cost of Rs 13.5 crore, while the government had also sanctioned Rs 34 crore for upgrade of the Sujanpur to Sandhol road. He said the national level Sujanpur Holi Utsav would soon be made an international event.

Agnihotri also released a souvenir for the Sujanpur Holi Utsav and honoured two NCC cadets who participated in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi this year.
