Nepalese woman arrested with over 2 kg opium in Solan's Kandaghat
Accused, a tea shop owner, linked to opium racket busted in Shimla; three arrested so far, over 11.5 kg contraband seized
Shimla police have arrested a Nepalese woman from Solan’s Kandaghat area with 2.039 kg of opium, in connection with an ongoing probe into a drug racket.
The accused has been identified as Laxmi (46), originally from Lamjung district in Nepal, who was running a tea shop in Kandaghat.
Shimla SSP Gaurav Singh said that on March 26, police had arrested two Nepal nationals with 9.28 kg of opium from the Narkanda area, following which a case under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 was registered at Kumarsain police station and an investigation was initiated.
“During the investigation, police found that Laxmi was also part of this drug racket as she was listed as a wholesale customer of the two accused. She had also received the contraband from the two accused when they were on their way to Shimla. Laxmi was planning to sell the contraband to locals,” he said.
The SSP added that based on the findings, a police team was dispatched to Kandaghat, where the accused woman was apprehended along with the contraband on Monday.
He said that she was produced in a local court, which remanded her to five days of police custody.
The SSP said further investigation is underway and the involvement of more accused in the network is being ascertained. “So far, three drug peddlers linked to this network have been arrested and around 11.5 kg of opium has been seized,” he added.
