SHIMLA: After the elevation of Chief Justice Surya Kant as the Judge of the Supreme Court, the President has appointed Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, seniormost Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court as the Acting Chief Justice.

SHIMLA: After the elevation of Chief Justice Surya Kant as the Judge of the Supreme Court, the President has appointed Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary, seniormost Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court as the Acting Chief Justice. He assumed the charge today.  Justice Chaudhary belongs to Lohara village, Mandi district. He had obtained a degree in law from HP University, Shimla, and enrolled as an advocate in 1983. Justice Chaudhary practised in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Labour, Company and Service matters. Thereafter he was appointed as the Additional District and Sessions Judge on August 1, 1995. He was appointed the permanent Judge of the High Court on January, 18, 2014. OC

Sen to give insight into Indian cinema 

Shimla: A One-day film appreciation workshop will be organised by the Him Cine Society in collaboration with HP University in the committee hall on the campus, on Saturday. According to the secretary of the society, the workshop will be attended by film producer and director Sudipto Sen, who will deliver lecture on cinema techniques, Indian cinema, nationalism and cinema roll-sound-camera-action. Chairman of the Haryana Higher Education Commission and former Vice-Chancellor of Makhan Lal Chaturvedi Rashtriya Patarkarita Vishvvidyalya, Bhopal, and Chairman of the Bharatiya Chitra Sadhna Prof BK Kuthiala will also deliver lectures. Kuthiala will speak on ‘Cinema as a medium of social change’. Dr Namrata Joshi, chairperson of journalism department in Guru Nanak Dev University, will speak on the history and changes in Indian cinema. Body recovered  

Chamba: The body of a man, who was buried under debris following a landslide on May 15, was recovered on Friday. A team of the NDRF from Bathinda (Punjab) carried out the operation. Chamba SP Monika Bhutunguru said the deceased, Ravi Kumar of Mandi, was a driver. He was engaged in road cutting near Mangla on the Chamba-Khajjiar road when the landslide occurred. OC
