New industrial policy in final stage: Himachal CM

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday said the state government was in the final stages of framing a new industrial policy, which would be notified shortly to accelerate industrial growth, attract investment and generate employment in Himachal Pradesh.

Chairing a review meeting of the Industries Department, the CM said consultations with all stakeholders were being held to ensure that the policy is comprehensive and industry-friendly. He added that the government was strengthening the single-window clearance system and simplifying rules and procedures under the ease of doing business initiative to make it easier for industrialists to establish and operate enterprises in the state.

Sukhu said the government had already undertaken several policy initiatives and legal reforms during the last three-and-a-half years to improve the investment climate. He expressed confidence that the new industrial policy would play a key role in attracting fresh investments while creating job opportunities for the youth.

Reviewing the progress of the bulk drug park at Una, the CM directed officers to expedite the project and invite reputed companies from across the country to invest in the facility. He said the Rs 2,071-crore project would generate substantial employment opportunities. Around 800 bighas of land had already been levelled, while site development work was progressing on a war footing.

He also asked officials to complete the common effluent treatment plant and steam generation facility by July 15. The Chief Minister also reviewed the construction of the Unity Mall at Dharamsala and said the first instalment of Rs 66 crore had already been released.
