NHPC issues advisory as Parbati River water level rises in Kullu

Tourists and locals have been advised to stay away from river banks in Kullu district in view of the continuous increase in reservoir level and anticipation of high water inflow from Pulga dam of Parbati-II power station into the Parbati River.

As per the alert issued by National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC), the owners and management of hotels, guest houses, home stays, camps, taxi drivers and all others have been requested to exercise caution and alert travelling tourists to remain at a safe distance from the banks of Parbati river.

As per the alert, approximately 55 cumecs water from the dam radial gates was diverted into the river from Pulga Dam of Parbati-2 Power Station today due to which total discharge into Parbati river could go up to 85 cumecs. In case of further increase in flow then more water may be released from the radial gates of Parbati-II which could lead to rise in water level in Parbati river, the alert said.

In view of the possible rise in water level in Parbati river in Kullu district, the general public, tourists and workers have been requested to remain at a safe distance from the banks of the river. Public addressing vehicles will be deployed to warn people in the nearby areas besides blowing of hooters and sirens.
