NIT Assistant Prof gets Rs 1.5-crore for research

To study energy efficiency of govt buildings in Chandigarh

Sourovi Dutta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Hamirpur, has been awarded a research grant of Rs 1.5 crore under the scheme for the Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) of the Union Ministry of Education.

HM Suryawanshi, Director, NIT, while appreciating the achievement, said that it reflected the institute’s commitment to sustainable development and high-impact research. He added that the project would utilise advanced computer-based simulation tools to assess natural lighting, thermal performance and indoor air quality and proposed climate-sensitive and energy-efficient retrofitting solutions.

Sourovi Dutta said that the research project titled, ‘Energy Nexus: Decolonial and Simulation-Based Retrofitting Strategies for Energy Efficiency and Thermal Comfort in Government Residential Buildings of Chandigarh’ would study the energy efficiency and climate resilience of the existing government residential buildings. She added that the project also involved Nand Kumar of the MNIT, Jaipur; Faiz Ahmed of the SPA, Vijayawada; and international experts from University College London, UK, reflecting national and global academic collaboration.

Archana Santosh Nanoti, Registrar of the NIT, called it a moment of pride for the institute. She said that it would further strengthen the NIT’s academic reputation. “This two-year project aligns with India’s G20 priorities of sustainability, green transition and international research collaboration. It will significantly contribute to developing energy-efficient solutions for urban housing,” she added.
