No headway for heliport’s construction in Palampur
Though the government has already transferred 82 kanals for the construction of the heliport at Palampur, till date there is no headway for the execution of this project. Over a year has passed since the Tourism Department has failed to even call the global bids.
Last year, during a visit to Palampur, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had announced that the DPR for the heliport would be finalised soon. However, till date nothing has been done. It may be recalled that proposed 82 kanal land has been transferred from the Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur, campus, around 3 km from Palampur city.
The Chief Minister had announced that Rs 9 crore would be spent on construction of the heliport. He had disclosed that his government was working to develop Palampur as an IT hub and this heliport will give impetus to tourism in Kangra district.
Sukhu had said that the aim of the state government was to establish heliports close to the district headquarters to reduce travel time for high-end tourists. This was one of the flagship schemes of the Sukhu government, which is facing rough weather because of financial crises in the state.
