Not held for 12 yrs, Hamir Utsav set for grand relaunch: Bittu
Three-day event was organised to mark foundation day of district on September 1
The Hamir Utsav, an annual function that has not been organised for 12 years, is set for a grand relaunch, said Sunil Sharma Bittu, Political Adviser to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The Hamir Utsav, a three-day event of cultural, sports and other activities, was organised to mark the foundation day of the district on September 1. The district was carved out of Kangra in 1972 with two subdivisions Barsar and Hamirpur. The event had not been organised for about 12 years.
Bittu said that the long forgotten Hamir Utsav would be revived under the guidance of the Chief Minister. The event would be held at a grand scale, marking a significant cultural revival of the district. He shared this update after meeting a delegation of senior Congress leaders and dignitaries from Hamirpur town who urged him for the resumption of the festival.
Bittu said that Hamirpur was a leading district in development and political significance and “has a unique cultural identity”. “We will request the Chief Minister to revive the tradition of the Hamir Utsav and begin organising this magnificent festival in Hamirpur town,” he added.
He said that a blueprint for the event would be prepared soon with the active involvement of local social organisations. Bittu praised the Chief Minister for his commitment to his home district and approving major developmental projects backed by crores of rupees of funding. “The Chief Minister remains resolute in preserving and promoting the folk culture and traditions of the district and he will extend his blessings and guidance for the grand Hamir Utsav,” he added.
Naresh Thakur, convener, State Narcotics Elimination Board; Ajay Sharma, Chairman of the APMC; Suman Bharti, former president of the District Congress Committee; Rajiv Rana, convener of the Karmgar Kalyan Congress; Sunil Kumar, former president of the Block Congress Committee; Rajesh Anand, Rajesh Chaudhary, Manoj Sharma, Sunil Thakur, Nishant Sharma and Sunil Ranaut were present on the occasion.
