KS Jamwal, president of the Samanya Varg Sanyukt Manch, said that lakhs of people from different parts of the country had started gathering at Ramlila Maidan since the previous night to take part in the rally. He alleged that though the authorities had initially granted permission for the rally, it was later withdrawn after the administration saw the large turnout.

Jamwal said that the police detained several participants at various places and transported them in their vehicles to different locations in an attempt to disperse the gathering. Despite these restrictions, a significant number of protesters managed to assemble and voice their opposition to the new UGC regulations.

The protesters raised slogans and asked the Central Government to reconsider the regulations, claiming that these measures could adversely affect the interests of the general category people.
