Swan Women Federation, a collective of over 15,000 women in Una district, today organised its annual scholarship exam for girl students. The examination was held at Government Girls College in Kotla Khurd, Una, where over 1,000 students from Classes V to X appeared for the written examination.

Federation chairperson Subhadra Rani Chaudhary said top five students in each class will be given a total of one-time scholarship amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh. She added that this was a regular feature of the organisation to boost female talent right from the childhood as it also instilled a sense of competition among children.

Federation president Anuranjana Sharma said the organisation managed funds from its own resources. Raj Kumari, president of the Swan Women (Multipurpose) Cooperative Society, a sister concern of the federation, said the savings of the SHGs had accumulated a working capital of over Rs 20 crore. Raj Kumari said micro credits amounting to over Rs 20 crore have so far been extended to the members for income generation and family welfare activities, including education and marriage of their daughters, during the last 10 years. Federation CEO Dr RK Dogra and Directors of the Federation besides staff members were present.
