Talking to reporters here today Butail said at the centre of the development agenda was the approval of a major sewerage project worth Rs 135.40 crore. The ambitious scheme was expected to significantly strengthen Palampur’s sanitation infrastructure and address long-standing concerns related to wastewater management. He said he had instructed the departments concerned to ensure that the project was executed within stipulated timelines and with strict quality standards so that residents benefited without unnecessary delays.

“One of the most pressing issues facing Palampur had been traffic congestion and inadequate parking facilities, particularly in the main market and commercial areas. To address this, construction had begun on a large-scale parking facility designed to accommodate nearly 1,000 vehicles,” he added. Once completed, the project was expected to ease traffic bottlenecks, improve pedestrian safety and enhance the overall urban experience for residents and visitors alike, he said. Officials believe the initiative would also support local businesses by facilitating smoother access to commercial zones.

“Beyond sewerage and parking, the broader Rs 600-crore development plan includes strengthening drinking water supply systems, expanding sewerage coverage to uncovered areas, improving road connectivity and developing tourism-related infrastructure,” Butail disclosed.

Beautification projects and urban landscaping initiatives are also part of the roadmap, aimed at preserving Palampur’s identity as a scenic hill town, while equipping it with modern civic facilities.

The MLA stated that coordinated efforts between various departments shall be ensured to avoid execution delays and cost escalations. Regular monitoring of projects was also being planned to maintain transparency and accountability.

With these initiatives underway, the constituency is set to witness significant infrastructural transformation in the coming years, positioning Palampur among the better planned and more tourist-friendly destination in the state.
