Hamirpur, August 6

The district administration has come up with a deterrent to littering in the form of a fine of Rs 25,000. The decision was taken at a meeting headed by Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meena here yesterday.

The DC has roped in the Pollution Control Department to keep vigil on the people, who litter around. He said arrangements for door-to-door garbage collection had also been made. The Pollution Department would monitor the drive started in the town and violators would be penalised under the Pollution Control Act. He directed employees of the municipal corporation and contractors involved in the cleaning drive to streamline and improve their working within two days.

He said commercial establishments, including restaurants, cafes, tea shops and vegetable shops, required special monitoring as they were the major contributors to the garbage.
