Pensioners stage protest outside Vidhan Sabha in Shimla
Demand payment of gratuity, leave encashment, commutation and revised pension to employees, who had retired between 2016 and 2022, 13 per cent DA and arrears
Pensioners staged a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha here today, accusing the government of adopting anti-pensioner policies and ignoring their demands. Under the banner of the Himachal Pradesh Pensioners Joint Struggle Committee, the protesters alleged that the government had withheld their dearness allowance, arrears and other financial benefits citing a financial crisis while the salaries and allowances of public representatives were being increased.
Their demands included the payment of gratuity, leave encashment, commutation and revised pension to employees, who had retired between 2016 and 2022, 13 per cent dearness allowance and pending arrears, timely payment of pension to retired employees of various boards, corporations, etc.
Committee chairman Suresh Thakur said that if their delegation was not called for talks, thousands of pensioners would stage a protest outside the Assembly on the day the Budget is presented. He added that the pensioners would not back down if their demands were not met and the next demonstration would be much bigger.
