People celebrate Eid in Shimla; pray for peace and harmony
'Hatred should be eliminated, and all festivals should be celebrated with mutual love and brotherhood'
Hundreds of people belonging to Muslim community celebrated Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, today and prayed for the peace and harmony in the state as well as across the country.
Muslims in large numbers gathered at various mosques across the town and offered their prayers. They were seen celebrating the festival at the Eidgah, Jama Masjid, Chhota Shimla and Qutub Mosque in Sanjauli. After the prayers, people embraced each other and exchanged Eid greetings.
Maulvi Mumtaz Ahmad Qasmi, highlighted the importance of the festival and said that from the religious perspective, ‘Tawhid’ means believing that Allah and God are one, and that the core message is to have faith in one god and worship only him. He said that the message of this day is sacrifice and devotion.
“One form of sacrifice is the sacrifice of animals, but the true sacrifice is the spirit that inspires a person to be ready to sacrifice for the country and the nation. A person should be willing to make sacrifices to protect humanity. Along with this, hatred should be eliminated, and all festivals should be celebrated with mutual love and brotherhood,” he said.
