Shimla, April 18

A “photo walk” marked the Heritage Day celebrations in Shimla as residents and tourists got a glimpse into the rich heritage of the city.

The walk was organised by the Himachal State Museum, Shimla, in collaboration with the Himalayan Institute of Digital Arts on the occasion of the World Heritage Day. The walk commenced from Christ Church and covered all important monuments of the town, including Gaiety Theatre, Town Hall, Post Office, Bantony Castle, State Bank of India, Railway Board building, Gortan Castle, railway station, sanatorium, Cecil hotel, Indian Institute of Advance Study and culminated at Inverarm, Himachal State Museum.

A discussion was also held on the aims and importance of the World Heritage Day. Retired bureaucrat Dr Purnima Chauhan briefed about the historical and cultural heritage of the town while historian Dr OC Handa highlighted the importance of heritage and role and responsibility of society to preserve and conserve it for posterity. The founder of Shimla heritage walk, Sumit Raj Vashist, and Dr Amit Kumar also participated in the discussion, besides tourists and students.
