Plantation drive in Narkanda

With the aim of protecting the environment and advancing the vision of a greener Himachal Pradesh, the Forest Department organised a tree plantation drive at Narkanda in Shimla district, during which 80 saplings, including Deodar and Khanor, were planted. The drive was inaugurated by Rampur Sessions Judge Madan Kumar and Senior Civil Judge and Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ajay Thakur.

Students from local educational institutions, members of women’s groups, youth organisations and residents of the area participated enthusiastically in the plantation drive.

Addressing the gathering, Judge Madan Kumar said that environmental protection was one of the most urgent needs of the present time. “Tree plantation is not merely a formality, it is a collective responsibility towards safeguarding the future of coming generations,” he said. He urged everyone to regularly care for the planted saplings and ensure their protection until they grow into mature trees. He also appealed to students and local residents to spread awareness about environmental conservation and turn the initiative into a mass movement.

Judge Ajay Thakur said a clean and healthy environment was not only a fundamental right of every citizen but also a shared responsibility. He emphasised that the goal of environmental protection could be achieved only through large-scale plantation and proper care of trees.

At the conclusion of the programme, participants took a pledge to protect the environment and committed themselves to nurturing and safeguarding the newly planted saplings.
