Shimla, November 14

The state government will soon take a decision to fill the posts of dental doctors on a regular basis through Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission to benefit the students passing out from the dental colleges of the state, said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.

Thakur, who was the chief guest at the annual college day and prize distribution function of Government Dental College, Shimla, organised at Gaiety Theatre on Tuesday said a hostel would be constructed to facilitate the students of the dental college.

Thakur said that efforts would be made to provide better job avenues for dental doctors and the government would also make efforts to ensure availability of dental doctors in the rural areas in a phased manner. This step would go a long way in providing quality dental health care services to the people and creating awareness among the masses about dental health there.

Shimla dental college, which started functioning in 1994 with 20 admissions per year, has evolved with time and kept pace with development in the field of dental education. The college has been providing quality dental health services to the people of the state, the Chief Minister said.

Jai Ram Thakur said a suitable place would be identified soon in Shimla town for construction of a hostel for students of this college, who face problems in finding a suitable accommodation. He also urged dental students to supplement the efforts of the state government in creating awareness among the people, especially youth visiting them for treatment, about the ill effects of drug abuse.

Speaking on the occasion, Education Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that it was a matter of pleasure that doctors of the state were serving on premier posts like Director of AIIMS, New Delhi and PGIMER, Chandigarh and many other key posts. He urged the Chief Minister to take steps for construction of hostel for the students of the dental college.

The students of the dental college presented a colourful culture programme. The Chief Minister released annual magazine of the college and also awarded faculty members and students for their academic achievements.
