The Shimla district administration has banned rallies, protests, sloganeering, public meetings and band performances at The Mall Road and its nearby areas till January 31, 2026. People have also been banned from carrying objects that can be used as weapons in the area.
The order, issued by Shimla DC Anupam Kashyap, will be effective from Chhota Shimla to Kennedy House and up to The Ridge; 150-m area from Rendezvous Restaurant to Rivoli Cinema; Scandal Point to Kali Bari Temple; the link road from Chhota Shimla Gurdwara to Chhota Shimla–Kasumpti Road; from Chhota Shimla Chowk through Raj Bhavan to Oak Over; the stairs and pedestrian path near the Chhota Shimla Gurdwara leading to Kasumpti Road; the link road from Cart Road to Majithia House; the road from the AG Office to Cart Road; from the CPWD Office to Chaura Maidan; and a 50-meter stretch from Police Booth (above the DC office) towards Lower Bazaar.
He said it would be mandatory to take prior permissions to hold rallies, public meetings or band performances in these areas. However, this order will not be applicable to the on-duty personnel of the police, paramilitary and the armed forces.
