Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is damaging India’s global image by opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi on international platforms and must apologise for acting against national interest, said former Union Minister Anurag Thakur while talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a BJP meeting here on Saturday.

Anurag alleged that Congress leaders were opposing artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, thereby jeopardising job creation for the country’s youth. He added that the Central Government was committed to innovation, skill enhancement and future-ready governance. He cited flagship initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, free ration scheme, Ayushman Bharat, Jal Jeevan Mission, rural road expansion and digital connectivity that had transformed citizens’ lives and strengthened India’s position as a global economic power.

Earlier, while addressing a meeting of the Himachal BJP Urban Local Bodies Cell, Anurag urged party workers to expose what he termed the Congress government’s “anti-people” policies and make the public aware of their impact on daily life. He was joined by local MLAs Ashish Sharma (Hamirpur Sadar) and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal (Barsar), besides senior party leaders. The meeting reviewed the state’s political situation and chalked out a strategy to tackle upcoming challenges.

The Hamirpur MP also dismissed Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s allegations over the Revenue Deficit Grant and said that the Central Government had fulfilled its constitutional obligations by releasing Rs 1.62 lakh crore to the state. He accused the Congress government of misleading the public to conceal financial mismanagement and mounting debt and of betraying women and the youth through unfulfilled promises.

The party workers resolved to intensify efforts to unseat the state government and strengthen the BJP at the booth level in the run-up to the future elections.
