Rajya Sabha MP thanks Himachal CM Sukhu for granting nagar panchayat status to Bir-Billing

He expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for the decision, which, according to him, would accelerate development in the region and strengthen the basic civic infrastructure.
Sharma said that the decision would prove to be a milestone for the development of the Bir area, which had been witnessing rapid growth, particularly due to tourism activities. He added that the upgrade of Bir to a nagar panchayat would ensure planned development and improved civic amenities for local people.
The MP said that the residents of Bir, Gunehar, Chougan and Kyori would directly benefit from the new civic body. With the formation of nagar panchayat, facilities such as roads, sanitation, drinking water supply, streetlights and scientific waste management could now be developed and maintained in a more organised manner.
Sharma said, “Bir, an internationally renowned tourist destination, is especially popular for paragliding and adventure tourism and the new status would help the authorities concerned undertake development works in a systematic and planned manner. He added that improved urban infrastructure would not only benefit residents but also enhance the overall tourism potential of the area.
The MP said that under the Chief Minister’s leadership, the government had been working towards balanced development in all regions of Himachal. He added that the nagar panchayat status to Bir had addressed a long-pending demand of people.
He said that local residents had long been demanding a civic body in Bir. They expressed happiness that the state government had finally fulfilled the aspirations of people. Sharma, on behalf of the residents of Bir, Gunehar, Chougan and Kyori, thanked the Chief Minister for approving the proposal.
