The Kangra police succeeded in unearthing an inter-state cyber crime racket by arresting its three members yesterday. They were produced in the court today and remanded in 10-day police custody for further investigations.

As per the information, following a complaint lodged by a retired government teacher, Shubh Raj of Garal (Dharkalan) in Pathankot, the Nurpur police have registered a case against the unidentified fraudster on June 15. The accused had siphoned off Rs 39.65 lakh from two bank accounts of the complainant in the Punjab National Bank, Nurpur, from May 12 to 23. The bank accounts were swept through online transactions and shopping by the accused.

Three members of the racket, Sachin Sood and Sanjiv Kumar from Palampur, and Rakesh Kumar from Paragpur in Dehra, were nabbed by the Palampur police and handed over to the Nurpur police yesterday.

Probably, it is for the first time that youngsters from well-off families in Kangra district adopted the cyber crime route to earn money. The police sources revealed that the racket had its routes outside the state and it had adopted a new technique to sweep bank accounts of the victims. .
