Shimla, July 16
Sewage accumulated on the road leading to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, has put patients and their attendants to inconvenience.
As if this was not enough, sweepers and sanitation workers have turned the nearby Snowdon Nullah into a dumping site.
The SMC is getting a new pipeline laid along the IGMC-Lakkar Bazar-Sanjauli road, which has only worsened the situation.
The IGMC blames the SMC for the mess and the corporation on the ongoing work.
“There are no streetlights on the road. We have to pass through stench to reach the hospital,” a patient said.
“Potholes on the road are filled up with sewage,” a patient’’s attendants Anchal and Rama said.
Doctors too said the same thing. They added that vendors sitting on the roadside made the already narrow stretch congested.
Garbage and debris are dumped into the Snowdon Nulla.
Medical Superintendent, IGMC, Dr Janak Raj said they had written to the SMC twice, asking for remedial measures, but nothing happened.
“We have even asked them to give us funds so that we can undertake the road repair and get the areas cleande,” he added.
