Rs 2.25 crore education push in Chamba district

Himachal Education Minister Rohit Thakur on Sunday laid foundation stones and inaugurated school infrastructure projects worth Rs 2.25 crore in the Chamba Assembly constituency, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to strengthening quality and result-oriented education. MLA Neeraj Nayar was also present on the occasion.

At Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Chaned, the Education Minister laid the foundation stone for a new science block to be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.96 crore. Later, he inaugurated a newly constructed additional building worth approximately Rs 29 lakh at GSSS-Sach.

Earlier in the day, Thakur inaugurated a new auditorium, cricket court and girls’ hostel (Gurukul) at Rising Star Public Senior Secondary School, Udaipur. He also inspected various facilities being provided to students by the school management.

Interacting with students, parents and local residents at Chaned, Udaipur and Sach, the minister said the state government was taking concrete steps to ensure a qualitative and outcome-based education system. He said as a result of progressive policies and effective implementation of educational programmes, the state’s literacy rate has reached 99.30 per cent compared to 2021.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to quality education, Thakur said 7,000 posts have been filled in the Education Department over the past three years, while the process to fill another 4,000 posts is underway. He added that Chamba district currently records the highest enrollment in government schools in the state.

Referring to the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School initiative, he said Rs 112 crore has been earmarked in the first phase for construction of 42 selected day boarding schools across the state. He also announced Rs 11 lakh to complete the ongoing building construction of Government High School, Palyur, on the request of the local MLA.

During the programme, meritorious students were felicitated and donors who contributed land for school development were honoured. Senior district officials and local dignitaries were also present.
