Traffic cops in Una district have been barred from keeping more than Rs 200 in their pocket while on duty. A directive to this effect has been issued by Una SP Divakar Sharma.

According to the SP, there had been complaints of corruption and the move aims at checking any such practice. In case any traffic cop has more than Rs 200 in his pocket or needs more cash, he will have to make a register entry to the effect at his reporting office before proceeding on duty.

Otherwise, the recovery of more than Rs 200 from the pocket of any traffic police personnel while on duty will invite action, including suspension. “It’s not that I don’t trust my police force. However, it is a step to create public confidence. Moreover, why should policemen carry extra cash while on duty?” he said.

The SP has also directed that in case a cop is caught by vigilance sleuths while accepting bribe, action will also be taken against his superior officers, including the SHO. He claimed there had been no resistance to the steps initiated by him.
